Meet the Founder Behind Parthenais Security

When people hear the name Parthenais Security Services, founder Alexander Parthenais wants them to think of more than uniforms, patrol vehicles and incident reports. He wants the name to represent a security company built in the community, shaped by local experience and accountable to the businesses and organizations it serves.

Alexander has spent approximately five years working in and around the security sector. His experience has stretched from community events and stage security to large-scale industrial and warehouse security, giving him a view of the industry that ranges from public-facing event environments to complex logistics operations.

Parthenais Security Services, or PSS, grew from those experiences and from one recurring question:

Security experience that started close to home

Alexander's security experience began in community-event environments. Years before taking on security responsibilities at Cornwall Ribfest, he spent a year providing stage security during Canada Day celebrations. The assignment offered an early look at the balance required in event security: protecting performers, restricted areas and infrastructure while working alongside organizers, volunteers and large crowds.

He later became involved in security at Cornwall Ribfest, an event he already knew extremely well. Before working event security there, Alexander had spent roughly five years as a regular Ribfest volunteer, helping support the festival and the community around it.

That background made one principle especially clear: effective event security should support the event rather than dominate it. A strong security presence should be prepared, visible when necessary and approachable to the public, while allowing guests, performers and organizers to focus on the reason they are there.

His professional security experience later expanded into industrial and warehouse security with Walmart Logistics. That environment added an entirely different set of responsibilities, including access control, CCTV, alarm response, incident documentation, policy enforcement, vehicle and pedestrian traffic, emergency response and the protection of employees, contractors, inventory and critical supply-chain operations.

Together, those experiences have shaped the operating philosophy Alexander plans to bring to PSS: security is not one universal product. A community event, construction project, commercial property and industrial facility can all require radically different approaches.

Why start Parthenais Security Services?

PSS was not created simply because Cornwall needed another security-company logo.

The idea is to build something deliberately local, flexible and modern. Alexander believes there is room in Cornwall and Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry for a security provider that can build relationships directly with the businesses it protects and design services around the realities of the region.

National security firms have enormous resources, large workforces and proven operating systems. For many organizations, that scale can be useful. But scale is not the only thing a client may value.

A local provider can offer something different: proximity, familiarity and a direct connection between the quality of the service and the reputation of the people providing it.

Why choosing local can matter

When a Cornwall or SD&G business chooses a local supplier, the impact can travel much further than a single invoice.

A locally owned security company can hire people who live in the region. Those employees shop locally, purchase fuel locally, rent or own homes locally and spend their wages at nearby businesses. As the company grows, it also needs vehicles, maintenance, uniforms, printing, equipment, professional services, technology and other supplies.

Whenever practical, those purchases can create another opportunity to support local businesses.

The goal for PSS is not simply to operate in Cornwall and SD&G. It is to contribute to Cornwall and SD&G.

There is also a practical security advantage. A company that works every day in the same communities can develop a better understanding of local properties, travel times, recurring problem areas, seasonal events and the concerns businesses are actually facing.

Community involvement before the company existed

Community involvement is not being added to PSS as a marketing program after the fact. It predates the company by years.

Alexander spent approximately four years with the Cornwall Optimist Club, supporting community initiatives and events. He later became a Charter Member and Director of the Stormont Community Optimist Club, where he has now served for approximately one year.

Add in approximately five years volunteering at Cornwall Ribfest before taking on security responsibilities there, and a significant portion of his teenage years and young adulthood has been spent volunteering, organizing and working alongside people from across the community.

That history plays directly into how Alexander views private security.

Security is ultimately a people business. Behind every property is an owner, employee, tenant, customer or volunteer. Behind an alarm response is someone trusting a security professional to determine what happened. Behind an event assignment are organizers who may have spent months building something for their community.

Policies, technology and equipment matter, but they are tools. The purpose is protecting people, property and the organizations that depend on them.

Building a modern local security company

Alexander is very aware that building a company means there will always be more to learn. That mindset is part of the plan rather than something PSS intends to hide from.

Instead of assuming the security industry has already found the best way to do everything, PSS is being developed around questions.

How can technology give clients better visibility into the service they receive? How can mobile patrol make professional security practical for a business that cannot justify a guard stationed on-site all night? How can better reporting help identify trends before they turn into larger incidents? How can security planning focus more heavily on prevention instead of only documenting what happened afterward?

Those questions are helping shape PSS's planned services, which include mobile patrol, alarm response, property checks, lock and unlock services, construction-site checks and other business-focused security solutions.

The company is currently in its pre-launch and market-research stage. Rather than launching first and hoping clients appear afterward, PSS is asking businesses throughout Cornwall and SD&G what they actually need and which security challenges they want solved.

A family name on the door

There is a reason the company is called Parthenais Security Services.

Alexander chose to put his own family name on the business because it creates a very simple form of accountability. The company cannot disappear behind an anonymous national brand when something goes wrong. The name on the uniform, website, patrol vehicle and report is also the founder's name.

That raises the standard.

PSS is still at the beginning of its story, but the direction is clear: create local employment as the company grows, support the surrounding business community whenever practical, embrace technology where it genuinely improves service and build security programs that clients can depend on.

Because protecting a community is about more than responding when something goes wrong.

It starts with being part of that community in the first place.
